I remember clearly the first time I heard that phrase, it wasn’t in a book or at a prestigious conference, it was in the middle of chaos—tough decisions, a demotivated team, and a reflection in the mirror that returned more questions than answers.
At first, I saw it as just another inspiring quote, but then life, with its brutal honesty, forced me to truly understand it, and from that moment on, that phrase never left me, It shakes me, It challenges me, because it’s not just a comparison—it’s a door. A door that leads to a more human kind of leadership:
– One that doesn’t impose, it inspires.
– That doesn’t force, it ignites willingness.
– That doesn’t shout, it resonates with the heart.
But let me tell you something, with all my heart, that kind of leadership is impossible without humility, and I don’t mean humility as a nice gesture.
I mean that deep humility— the kind that requires us to put the needs of others above our personal goals, the kind that helps us understand that leadership isn’t about being followed… it’s about seeking the greater good, even if that means letting go of what I want for what we need.
That’s where my real journey began, I had to let go of outdated models, break up with my ego, remove the armor of “I know it all,” and relearn how to see every person as someone who deserves to be heard, understood, and lifted up.
In that process of inner reconstruction, I found essential allies:
– Books that don’t just inform you—they shake you.
– Seminars that don’t just teach—they confront you.
– Mentors who don’t clap for you—they transform you.
And with every step, I came to realize a truth I can no longer ignore, authentic leadership doesn’t begin when others follow you, it begins the day you stop running from yourself and choose to serve with humility, vision, and heart.
Today, I don’t share this experience to teach you something. I share it to invite you to something much greater: ignite your compass. let every decision you make not only move you closer to your goals but lift others alongside you.
Because true leadership is not about being the first to reach the top… it’s about making sure no one is left behind.
